Besco, formerly Bhartia Electric Steel Company was the first steel maker in India to adopt the electric Arc process. From a small begining with the setting up of the Ballygunge Plant in 1922, Besco has completed more than 75 years of healty growth engaged in supply of essential equipment to the core sector of the economy.
Besco is a Railway equipment manufacturer, catering to the equipments of the Indian Railways and Other Railway Systems Globally.
The Company has its manufacturing facilities in the city of Calcutta, Freight Car Bolster, Side Frames,Centre Plates Friction Shoes,Brake Beams, Couplers, Yokes, Draft Gears, Followers, Cast Manganese Steel Crossings(Frogs) and Coil Springs are the main product. The Company has a unit in Faridabad in Northern India Manufacturing Steel to Rubber bonded component for Rolling Stock. Besco supplies account for 33% of the population of these equipment on the Indian Railway System. Currently Besco is the market leader in most of these products.
Besco is a professionally managed company, employing over 800 people directly comprising of engineers, technicians, Skilled artisans and design personnel. In addition Besco has developed skilled ancillaries and quality oriented vendors.
Besco manufacturing facilities have also been successfully audited by the AAR nominated agencies,under AAR specification M 1003 for Quality Control.The Research and Development Division of the Company has been accorded recognition by the Government of India, Department of Science and Technology. The new state of the art railcar manufacturing facility is compliant with G-105 standards- the Indian Railway's latest technology infrastructure requirments.
