Besco
Besco, formerly known as Bhartia Electric Steel Company, was the first steelmaker in India to adopt the electric arc process. From a small beginning with the establishment of the Ballygunge Plant in 1922, Besco has completed more than 75 years of healthy growth, supplying essential equipment to the core sectors of the economy.
Railway Equipment Manufacturing
Besco is a leading railway equipment manufacturer, catering to the requirements of Indian Railways as well as other railway systems globally.
The company’s manufacturing facilities, located in the city of Kolkata, produce a wide range of products including:

Besco also has a unit in Faridabad, Northern India, for manufacturing steel-to-rubber bonded components for rolling stock. Currently, Besco supplies account for nearly 33% of the total equipment population on the Indian Railway System, making it the market leader in most product categories.

Besco is a professionally managed company employing over 800 people, including engineers, technicians, skilled artisans, and design experts. In addition, Besco has developed skilled ancillary units and quality-oriented vendors to support its production needs.
Quality and Compliance
The company’s manufacturing facilities have been successfully audited by AAR-nominated agencies under AAR Specification M-1003 for quality control. Besco’s Research and Development Division has also been recognized by the Government of India, Department of Science and Technology.
Furthermore, the state-of-the-art railcar manufacturing facility is fully compliant with G-105 standards, the latest infrastructure requirements of Indian Railways.
